In the installation ‘The Elusive Truth’ a monitor displays a number of leading world news agencies that are constantly updating global news stories. These news agencies provide a window in which to see, and engage with, the wider world, determining how we view other cultures, religions, institutions and individuals. Within the network of news agencies, each with their own various political, corporate, financial and practical pressures, events are contained that require our consideration, judgment and action. These events, appearing instantaneously in real time through RSS feeds, spill over into the gallery floor creating an impossible volume of data for the viewer to sift through and analyze. Providing a portrait of all news agencies at the same time, with their different perspectives on the same stories laid out side by side, illustrates the way in which impartial information is distorted, corrupted, or obscured through a series of complex systems in a search for ‘the elusive truth.’
