In avatar the artist has taken the principles of systematic computer recognition software to create portraits from the community of people around him. Photographing the 50 immediate people within his day-to-day and combining them to form a new image. This technique takes its inspiration from computer recognition software that uses a bank of 50 faces to create any human face in the world. Using a computer software system to analyse the patterns of the face it combines features from its bank of faces to create a new face, an image of the human self through the eyes of a machine. In the process that the artist has gone through, the resulting image is one that has the sign and suggestion of a self through the image of others.
