Hephaustus is a machine made from the components of redundent ink jet printers.The machine paints acid onto an image of the hand, at first destroying it to reveal a surface made up of metals, including copper, iron, brass and bronze. The machine then uses a series of different chemicals to paint on to the metal surface, creating a new hand through patination and oxidisation, fusing of the organic and the man made where the two are integrated into one.
